Have social media been incorporated in the policy of organisations that operate in the personal protection equipment sector? This is a question that Van Puijenbroek Textiel wishes to answer. The textile company from Goirle in the Netherlands and the owner of the HaVeP and Bucofa brands has already been actively using various social media to publicise its activities for more than a year.
"We think we are reaching out to increasingly more companies in this way", says marketing executive Patrick in 't Zandt. "But we did not have any figures that could confirm our feelings." This is the reason why Van Puijenbroek Textiel performed its own survey among its customers in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The survey showed that more than half the respondents already actively use social media. Almost 75% expect the use of social media to play a more important role in business communications in 2012. LinkedIn and Twitter are the most popular channels for business purposes in the personal protection equipment sector. Most companies seem to have stopped using Hyves. In this respect, the sector is in line with national trends.
Companies appear to use social media mainly for following news bulletins, monitoring reports from other organisations and to promote their particular brand, product or service. The survey was carried out among HaVeP and Bucofa customers and involved completing an extensive questionnaire. In 't Zandt: "We are pleased to have our feelings confirmed by concrete figures. We therefore have every reason to expand and develop our use of social media." Van Puijenbroek Textiel and the Bucofa brand can be followed on LinkedIn. The HaVeP brand is on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Hyves.
